Deshi-Kai Mikey Joined the Golden Dragons in April of 2009.
Mikey started out right from the start taking on extra training. Working hard at his regular curriculum, he also worked on specialty training. Breaking, Weapons and most of all Teaching.
Deshi Mikey started training every class and asking if Soke Calkins had some extra time for private training. With in weeks of starting his training Mikey started training in his favorite challenge "BREAKING".
During our first open house Deshi Mikey made his first board break. By the end of that month he was breaking 5 boards with no spacers. He defiantly had a talent for this martial art.
Shortly after getting his orange belt Mikey started showing a talent for helping the other students. Taking on the job of assisting Soke Calkins with the Saturday class of Lil` Dragons. Then working with Soke Calkins and Sensei Fraser, Mikey started training in how to work with the adult students. This doesn't just mean learning the techniques but the theories behind the moves.
In November 2009 Deshi Mikey was asked to join the front row at the dojo as Deshi-Kai, An Assistant Student Instructor.
Mikey attended many local tournaments to have fun with some of the other aspects of Martial Arts. Diving into Sparring, Stick Fighting and of course Breaking.
Never settling for second best he has taken first place at each event. In 2009 Deshi-Kai Mikey made it to the World Championships, The Super Grand’s in Buffalo. Deshi-Kai was looking at competing against competitors from around the world. 3 men made it to his division. Deshi-Kai made our school very proud by taking 2nd place in the world event.
Deshi-Kai can be found working hard on the floor of our main school in Caledonia, NY. and kicking up his heals on Saturday morning with our Lil` Dragons.
